Speaking before AIPAC, Obama says he is a strong supporter of Israel and believes that an undivided Jerusalem must remain the capital of Israel.
He said this to great applause. I wonder if anyone fainted.
Well, yes. They are just words, aren’t they. And Obama’s got a lot more (empty words) where those came from.
Obama’s statement about Jerusalem is ground-breaking since the “international community” doesn’t recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The bone of contention here (and it’s a big bone) is that the Palestinians plan for Jerusalem (East Jerusalem) to be the capital of the Palestinian state when and if it is ever born.
My guess is that Obama has been advised of the touchstone nature of declaring an undivided Jerusalem the capital of Israel. Of course, we won’t know if this giant pander will win Obama any Jewish support until the General Election, but I would warn ALL real supporters of the nation of Israel…the odds are very good that, yes, these are just words.
I encourage those who love Israel to remember Barry’s statement in the “Audacity of Hope” that “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction” (per Ted Belman of the blog Israpundit). Before Hamas and Fatah recognize Israel and its undivided capital of Jerusalem, the political winds will “shift” in a very ugly direction.
Obama Supports Israel, Angers Fatah and Hamas

(IsraelNN.com) US Presidential candidate Barack Obama, speaking at the AIPAC convention in Washington Wednesday, said that Jerusalem must remain undivided.
“Jerusalem must remain the capital of Israel, and it must remain undivided,” Obama said, to the rousing applause of the AIPAC audience. He also said that any agreement Israel makes with the “Palestinian Authority” must retain Israel’s character as a Jewish state – thus appearing to side with the Israeli position on not allowing Arab refugees from 1948 into Israel.
