Obama’s Energy Plan (the Obama Tire Pressure Gauge)

Obama may lack a sense of humor, but not McCain.

Here’s a link to the video/embed in our post last week…
Video Embed–Obama: “inflating tires can save as much oil as we can produce by drilling!”

And here’s the Obama camp’s not so hilarious rejoinder. As you might expect, the prim schoolmaster has his knickers in a knot again…

“As Senator McCain knows, Barack Obama has a comprehensive plan to provide real relief to Americans struggling with soaring prices and make the long-term investments we need to break our addiction to oil,” the campaign writes in an email with the subject line “more from the low road.”

“And while the McCain team may is busy amusing themselves, the fact is that the idea they’re attacking is supported by, among others, top McCain surrogate Joe Lieberman, conference call host Mike Rogers, Governors Charlie Crist and Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Department of Energy, and NASCAR — all of whom have urged Americans to help save energy by minding tire pressure,” the Obama team continued in the email. “But hey, who ever let the facts — or supporters’ positions — get in the way of a political attack? Aboard the Low Road Express, that’s no problem at all.”

Personally I think someone’s let all the air out of the tires on the Straight Talk Express. 🙂

  3. Listen, Obama’s plan is change. If we don’t elect Obama, how can we get change. I need to buy a soda and all I have is a $20, where is Obama so I can get some change.

Oh now come on all, you know Obama is a reformer, and that he will bring all americans together as one. How do we know that, cause Obama says he is!
I have to go now and take my meds.

  5. Obama ought to be selling them. It’s a sad day when Paris Hilton has a better energy plan than, and runs intellectual circles around, John McCain.

So, McCain wants to give billions of dollars away to oil companies, screw up the tourist industry and fishing industry in Florida AND California, and all we’d get out of it is the equivalent of air in our tires?

Problem with the tire pressure gauge: It doesn’t go high enough to measure the hot air from the McCain camp.

    Ed Darrell:

Thx for your comment (and compliments re: your blog, Millard Fillmore’s Bathtub!).

Exactly how does McCain plan to give billions of dollars to oil companies?

And BTW the safety of off-shore drilling technology has substantially improved. The following is from one of our blog posts entitled ““Environmentalists Say Yes to Offshore Drilling” (Santa Barbara).”

When an environmental group formed for the sole purpose of opposing offshore oil drilling warmly embraces a plan to drill off its own coast, you know something important has changed in our culture: Americans have recognized that offshore oil drilling is largely safe.

Since 1975, drilling in the Exclusive Economic Zone (within 200 miles of the U.S. coast) has had a 99.999% safety record, according to the Energy Information Administration, which reports that “only .001 percent of the oil produced has been spilled.”

And then there’s this from the same article…

The vast majority of the oil that finds its way into the sea comes from dry land, NASA found. Runoff from cities, roads, industrial sites and garages deposits 363 million gallons into the sea, making runoff by far the single largest source of oil pollution in the oceans. “Every year oily road runoff from a city of 5 million could contain as much oil as one large tanker spill,” notes the Smithsonian exhibit, “Ocean Planet.”

The second-largest source of ocean oil pollution was routine ship maintenance, accountable for 137 million gallons a year, NASA found — more than 2.5 times the amount that comes from tanker spills and offshore drilling combined. But no one is proposing that we ban cargo and cruise ships.

“It’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant. They think it is funny that they are making fun of something that is actually true… Instead of running ads about Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, they should go talk to some energy experts. They need to do their homework.”

    Hey Paul:

    Thx for your comment.

Don’t you think that GOP comments about offshore drilling might reflect talks with “experts”?

  9. Drilling is generally safe, yes, but also spills a lot. Consider the damage from the recent hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico, “among the worst on record.”

Oil drilling and pumping is not a clean industry. Petroleum is toxic and loaded with carcinogens. It spills frequently. Attempts to minimize it by citing the atrocious record of shipping is rather like noting the relative safety of HIV by citing typhoid Mary.

Who do you think gets the profits from oil drilling and sales? The money doesn’t go to the Boy Scouts.

  10. I found your site on technorati and read a few of your other posts. Keep up the good work. I just added your RSS feed to my Google News Reader. Looking forward to reading more from you down the road!
