Obama’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’ or ‘How Obama lost the election’ (Spengler)

One may agree or disagree with Spengler, but he cannot be accused of failing to find a unique perspective on events. And his take on the Democratic convention and particularly the Thursday night Obama extravaganza is one-of-a-kind.

Here’s an excerpt from Spengler’s piece in the Asia Times (click link to read it all)…

Obama will spend the rest of his life wondering why he rejected the obvious road to victory, that is, choosing Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential nominee. However reluctantly, Clinton would have had to accept. McCain’s choice of vice presidential candidate made obvious after the fact what the party professionals felt in their fingertips at the stadium extravaganza yesterday: rejecting Clinton in favor of the colorless, unpopular, tangle-tongued Washington perennial Joe Biden was a statement of weakness. McCain’s selection was a statement of strength. America’s voters will forgive many things in a politician, including sexual misconduct, but they will not forgive weakness.

That is why McCain will win in November, and by a landslide, barring some unforeseen event. Obama is the most talented and persuasive politician of his generation, the intellectual superior of all his competitors, but a fatally insecure personality. American voters are not intellectual, but they are shrewd, like animals. They can smell insecurity, and the convention stank of it. Obama’s prospective defeat is entirely of its own making. No one is more surprised than Republican strategists, who were convinced just weeks ago that a weakening economy ensured a Democratic victory.

Obama: “The Perfect Stranger”–It’s still all about the “O” (Krauthammer)

Obama is a strange one…and his campaign is all about him.

He has no record to speak of. No paper trail. No witnesses (except for those now, as Charles points out, resting uncomfortably under the bus).

As it was in the beginning, it still is now. It’s all about Obama yet we don’t know who he is.

Here’s Krauthammer’s opening volley in Real Clear Politics today…

Barack Obama is an immensely talented man whose talents have been largely devoted to crafting, and chronicling, his own life. Not things. Not ideas. Not institutions. But himself.

Nothing wrong or even terribly odd about that, except that he is laying claim to the job of crafting the coming history of the United States. A leap of such audacity is odd. The air of unease at the Democratic convention this week was not just a result of the Clinton psychodrama. The deeper anxiety was that the party was nominating a man of many gifts but precious few accomplishments — bearing even fewer witnesses.

Denver: The Circus comes to town.

This is going to be a psychedelic week!

“…a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany … and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama”‘

— Barack Hussein Obama

Above is a drawing by Otto Veblin which appears today in an article by James Lewis in American Thinker entitled “Why are liberals so gullible?”

Great article…a must read by all conservative standards (via link above).

Here’s an excerpt…

When you see Obama’s next Nuremberg Rally with his nose in the air, take it as a sign of things to come. He really does despise us, you know. But he feels sorry for us, too, because he knows better. Contempt and pity go hand in hand. Maybe the liberal masses just love being pitied. Maybe they just accept being weak, helpless, and not too bright. Good grief.

Liberalism doesn’t change. What might change, over time, is for more sensible folk to recover their voices, after being completely shut out of the public square by the Sixties Left. The answer to liberal gullibility is debate, debate, debate. Open up those minds, tell them it’s ok to think your own thoughts, it’s ok to be different. Intellectual courage matters.

The media should never be run by a professional guild. Monopolies kill competing voices. Real thinking only thrives with vigorous intellectual competition. That’s why our universities have become brain-dead company towns. That’s why the Old Media need to go out of business, and the sooner the better.

When America rediscovers open debate, freedom will thrive again. The victims of media delusions will discover a world of intellectual excitement and danger. True Believers will have to deal with the reality of Doubt.

Here’s to it. Vive la liberté!

New anti-Obama ad about Barack & Ayers (video embed)

Nice ad–and just in time for the Convention. Here’s what the LA Times has to say about it (read the whole story at link)…

A newly formed conservative political group is spending $2.8 million to air the first tough general election ad attacking Barack Obama, questioning his relationship with a founder of the 1960s terrorist group Weather Underground.

Obama’s aides denounced the spot, calling it illegal. (Heheh!)They likened it to the 2004 Swift Boat Veterans for Truth assault on John Kerry’s military service, which some Democrats believe cost Kerry the election, and charged that Republican John McCain was behind it.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Republicans Plan to Cover the Democratic Convention in Denver–“Not Ready ’08” (WSJ)

“Not Ready ’08” (heheh)…this is going to be fun!

Former McCain opponents Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, along with Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota and a host of others, will be in Denver working with the staff in a two-story office within walking distance of the convention site.

From the headquarters, complete with catering and a security detail, the surrogates will hold news conferences, make television appearances and give satellite interviews with outlets in battleground states.

Will John Edwards speak at the Democratic National Convention?

UPDATE 3:55 pm 8/8/2008: Edwards admits to affair, denies fathering child

UPDATE: Fox News is now hammering this point with their article (posted at 12:57 pm today) “Edwards’ Party Role Clouded by Allegations.”

If Edwards thought he could forever dodge the issue of mistress and love child, he obviously forgot about the convention, which starts on August 25th. He would normally be expected to speak…but he must first clear up the “confusion.”

Did he or didn’t he?

Though the televised media isn’t touching this matter (yet), the print media is beginning to ask. Here’s excerpt and link from The Dallas Morning News article today…

“He absolutely does have to [resolve it]. If it’s not true, he has to issue a stronger denial,” said Gary Pearce, the Democratic strategist who ran Mr. Edwards’ 1998 Senate race.

Mr. Edwards’ decision not to take questions about the allegations has allowed doubts to linger and political bloggers to speculate.
